(2) why is this newsworthy ?

Peak hour ? Some end up giving first train a miss . This article is adopted from ‘Home’ section of straits time today (29.01.08) .

In my opinon , i find this article newsworthy as it concerns about 80-90% of the singaporeans. Due to the increase of global warming , singapore’s government strongly recommend every singaporean to take public transport like the MRT instead of owning personal cars which will contribute to the air pollution.

However, the MRT is extremely packed during peak hours. The part that is most annoying was to squeeze with the crowd.  As you just got a shower from home , getting fresh, preparing to go for work . Instead of getting yourself fresh and ready for work , you will most probably be drenched by sweat.

Other then that , you will also hear and feel someone else’s breathing. Don’t you find it disgusting? In addition, if it got to be in the evening where everyone knock off from work, some people do stinks with the sweats on them. And being in an air conditioned place, the ‘aroma’ simply diffuse at a faster rate.

Despite of feeling uncomfortable taking the public transport, MRT is still essential and play an important role in our life as it is fast, convenient and economical.

However, if we ever got to take a look at the trains in hong kong , you will find yourself fortunate to be in singapore. The reason being is that hong kong’s trains are actually much more packed then the MRTs in singapore. Not only that you have to stand, you will also have to squeeze so much that your face will most probably be sticking on to the door !

Hence , i still find it ironic that singapore government strongly encourages us to take public transport yet it is always so packed by people . However i do find mself lucky as i am not one of vicitim suffering in the MRT !

Why is this newsworthy ?

Cancer relapse, but ACS(I) boy still gets perfect score in IB. So why have this article caught my attention? Have you ever imagine yourself being a cancer patient? Have you ever thought of being outstanding and the scholars of your school? And i got to say that i am very impressed by this ACS(I) boy , Samuel Chan.

He’s a normal 18 year-old teen , studying in ACS(I) . However unfortuanately he was diagnosed with cancer yet he sat for IB ( International Baccaulureate ) instead of A levels like any other JC’s students. In fact, he was one of the world best scholars for IB.

My attention was caught by the word ‘WORLD’ and ‘CANCER’. Being a 18 year old young teen , he had lose his basic health. He can’t play , run and jump like any of us. Not only that, he had to  go through transplant, chemotheraphy and radiotherapy. The process is painful and tiring. If this ever going to happen on me, i doubt i would even endure through the painful process. The courage and determination he had was indeed commendable.

On the other hand , what impressed me more was the score he had for IB. He was one of the scholars, not only in Singapore but the world. IB was’t an exam for only that period of time, but it requires a persistent attitude thorughout the entire 2 years. Despite being lethargic after al his therapy needed , he continue to strive and work hard throughout the year.

Therfore i am very impressed with his admirable courage and commendable attitude .

Only then I realised we are so fortunate to be healthy. At least , we do not need to be cautious of our health and we can place all our concentration and efforts for studies. Thus, if he can do it, why can’t we ?
